Infarm’s expansion continues with Crisp in the Netherlands
The vertical farming company Infarm will become the exclusive supplier for herbs for Crisp - Netherland’s fastest-growing online supermarket
Amsterdam, The Netherlands, January 18, 2022 - Infarm, the world's largest cloud-connected farming network, announced a new retail partnership with Crisp, the fastest-growing online supermarket covering the Netherlands. With this new partnership, Crisp customers can buy the full range of sustainable and fresh herbs all year round, grown and harvested locally in Infarm’s Growing Center in Amstelveen/Amsterdam. Crisp is offering Infarm’s vertically-farmed, sustainably grown produce in Infarm’s sealed carton tray packaging, co-branded by both companies. The herbs are packaged alive, with their roots still attached, to preserve their intense taste and freshness.
Daniel Kats, Executive Vice President Sales at Infarm: “Crisp offers locally sourced, hyper fresh products to Dutch customers, with a strong focus on innovative and sustainable food. As Crisp’s single supplier of locally farmed, sustainably grown herbs, Infarm is the perfect addition to Crisp’s assortment of handpicked goods.”
Tom Peeters, co-founder & CEO at Crisp: “We founded Crisp three years ago with the mission to make better quality food available to the many, and took the country by storm. Our collaboration with Infarm is the perfect example of the relevant innovation we jointly bring. By working together we literally offer the shortest route from farm to fork to customers in the entire country. The result is the freshest, most tasteful and responsible offering of herbs.”
The launch assortment consists of thirteen herbs like Italian Basil, Curly Parsley, Thyme, Melissa, Sage and as an Infarm first: Oregano. They are available in the Crisp app since January 2022. At the end of March Infarm will be the sole supplier of fresh herbs. Crisp receives Infarm’s herbs on demand from the vertical farming network’s Growing Center in Amstelveen, which is just 20 km away from Crisp’s central distribution location. This Growing Center has a growing capacity of 300 square meters and can currently harvest over 500,000 plants per year, while using 95% less water and 95% less land than traditional agriculture. Infarm’s production process requires zero chemical pesticides and reduces transportation miles significantly compared to conventional agriculture. In 2022, a new large-scale farming unit will be installed at the Infarm Growing Center in Amstelveen to double the growing capacity. Infarm offers fresh, sustainable and tasty products like herbs, salads and micro-greens while already working on mushrooms and fruity crops like cherry tomatoes, strawberries and peas.
Infarm is building a global network of modular cloud-connected urban farms to revolutionise the supply chain of fresh goods, while eliminating climate risk and supporting biodiversity. By 2030 the vertical farming company plans to have 100 Growing Centers in 20 countries and announced a new funding round of over $200 million in December 2021 to support the company's global expansion.
Infarm’s cloud-connected network of climate-resilient farms gathers more than 50,000 growth, colour and spectral data points through a plant’s lifetime, with already 60 billion data points collected, which enables Infarm to perfect growing recipes and improve yield, quality and nutritional value in real-time, while reducing the cost of production. Infarm is committed to using 100% green-certified energy throughout its network by the end of 2022, reaching 90% by the end of 2021.
